Hello again, Fedi!
I left the Fediverse, only to come back to it as a duo.
A few weeks ago, I decided to decommission my GoToSocial server and cherish all the good interactions I had the chance to have on the Fediverse.
I felt like I was dedicating "too much" personal time to this virtual world and wanted to spend more time in the real world, with my partner and our pets. I had a feeling that the Fediverse wouldn't withstand the next "social network" trends, whereas our blog would remain, regardless of trends. And above all, the blog is for both of us, Tristan & me, and that was more important to me than maintaining an account just for myself.
And then Ghost V6 was released, the tool I use for our blog. The big new feature is the addition of a "Network" tab that opens the door to the Fediverse. Now, every "Blog post", long-form text, is federated, and it's also possible to maintain a line of "Notes," which are short-form texts, also federated.
I told myself that this was THE solution to keep a single entry point to our shared harvestNtech universe while participating in the Social Web again. So I talked to Tristan, and we launched a brand new account, in both our names, which you can follow with your favorite federation application (Mastodon & co): @hnt@harvestntech.fr
It's still a Beta version. All the classic features found elsewhere, such as Direct Messages, hashtag management, Markdown support... are not yet available. There are still a few problems and limitations here and there, particularly regarding the conversation view or impossible interactions with certain Fediverse servers. But it's very promising, and Ghost's CEO seems convinced that this is the way forward.
Of course, I'm the main user of Ghost, but Tristan enjoys looking over my shoulder to see what's happening on the Fediverse. I share the most interesting interactions and discoveries with him, and just like every blog post, he knows what notes I'm posting.
I promised Oups, Mimine & Noiraude that rejoining the Fediverse wouldn't deprive them of the extra scratches they've gained since I stopped maintaining a dedicated personal account. And I'm happy to have found a unified way to share our optimistic vision of autonomy and frugality on the Social Web again <3
